Reigate is a town situated in East Surrey. It is within the London commuter belt and is one of the four towns within the borough of Reigate and Banstead, the other towns being Redhill, Horley, and Banstead.
Reigate is positioned at the foot of the North Downs and has a population of over 20,000. In the winding lanes to the south-west of Reigate, in the direction of the Mole Valley, are the hamlets, Skimmington and Flanchford.
Reigate has has been a market town since the medieval period and has a medieval castle.
The local economy is very diverse, with a strong local service sector as well as a large commuting population. In the 1980's Reigate was the first Surrey town for over a century to have a new brewery open within its boundaries.
Reigate has a long sprawling high street that serves as the main shopping area, where a lot of household names are present.
